The Key Ingredients Of An Effective Web Hosting Package

When you launch a website there are a variety of decisions that must be made in order to ensure your success online. Everything from web design to web content must be considered in order to effectively launch and maintain an online presence. Just as integral to a successful website as design and content is the web host that is chosen to orchestrate online access. Finding an appropriate web host that will offer a comprehensive web hosting package is paramount to a website’s success.

As a website owner you have undoubtedly been faced with the challenge of finding a web hosting package that fits the needs of your website. For the uninitiated this can seem an overwhelming task. But ultimately, the best web hosting package for you should address several essential elements.

First, a web hosting package should include the space that is essential for your website to effectively operate. A web host “rents” space on its server – a computer that has reciprocal access to the Internet. A larger web host will provide larger space – imperative for websites that attract high traffic and support large files and graphics. Often you will pay for the space that your website requires; it is important to balance present day cost with future growth. If you are anticipating growth in your website – or you are working to increase traffic – then it may be worth the money to purchase a web hosting package that offers unlimited space.

A web hosting package will also differ from company to company depending on whether they are a virtual web host or a non-virtual web host. A virtual web host will offer you space on their server but under your own domain name; in other words, you have your own website address regardless of your web host or the server through which are working. The majority of websites online work with a virtual web host. A non-virtual web host will offer you space on their server under their domain name; so in order to access your website a visitor will often have to type in the web address of the host usually followed by a backslash and then your website or company name; or the web host will provide you with a domain name rather than you choosing one for yourself. The upside of a non-virtual web hosting package is that it is often much less money than its virtual counterpart.

Security is essential when choosing a web hosting package. It is important to ensure that any web host that you consider offers its customers the most up-to-date security measures available today. This is especially important if you will be offering your visitors the opportunity for online purchasing.

Finally, just as important when choosing a web hosting package is ensuring that you will receive quality customer service. Web hosting is a service you pay for and for which you should receive clear communication, responsiveness, and professionalism.

SEO for Dummies – Issue III

SEO Overview

There are quite a few things we do to improve our rankings .  Generally speaking, it’s the combination of all our actions that make the difference.  That said , if you have a more complex search, you could be number one next week.  For example, I just Googled “ pittsburgh clogged toilet ” and there wasn’t a single hit.  Just putting that text on your website pretty much guarantees that you’ll get on Google Page 1 – esp. if the user types that exact term with quotation marks around it.  If you perform a search with quotation marks around it, Google looks for an exact match for everything between the quotation marks.

Choosing a Domain

If you are starting a brand new site, consider a domain name that is relevant to your top terms.  For our example, if you can get www.pittsbugh-therapists.com , that’s a good thing.  If you can’t, you can still do variations, like www.my-pittsbugh-therapists.com. I don’t believe Google cares if you are .com .net .biz or .whatever.  I have researched whether having dashes in your domain name makes a difference, and have seen arguments pro and con.  Having dashes seems to be working just fine for us.

Keyword Saturation (also known as keyword density)

One of the most important things you can do is to saturate your visible text with keywords.  What does this mean?  Suppose I have 100 words on my website, and one of them is “therapist.”  That gives me a keyword density of 1% – one out of 100.  If the word “therapist” appears four times, I have a keyword density of 4%.  That’s a lot better.

Google is pretty smart, so you want to do things that are ethical and legitimate.  If you can work the word therapist into your text a bunch of times, that’s fine.  But don’t just put “therapist, therapist, therapist, therapist, therapist” in a row on your website.  Google will ding you and you’ll get less, not more, points.

Also, don’t try cute stuff like putting white text on a white background.  Google is hip to this trick and will ding you again.

Keyword Prominence

Another aspect of on-site SEO is keyword prominence.  This is how close to the top of the page your keywords appear.  Google typically assumes that the words closer to the top of the page are more important.

How To Find Cheap Web Hosting?

There are plenty of cheap web hosting companies on the net and sometimes it can be very difficult to decide which one you should go for. After all, once you have decided on one web host, it can be difficult to switch your websites to another one.

Your primary factor when searching for cheap web hosting should not be price. Yes, price is one factor but you need to take consideration into other factors before deciding.

Here are a few factors you should consider as well besides the price:

1. Customer Service

Ever had a problem with your hosting and no one to turn to? It can be frustrating when you have a problem with your hosting and can’t find anyone who can offer technical help.

It doesn’t matter how much traffic you get if your website is down and you can’t get anyone to respond to it. Good web hosting companies should have a support telephone line, live chat, email support and should be able to respond to any support case in less than 30 minutes. If not, move on to other web hosting.

2. Reliability

Most web hosting companies have an uptime guarantee. Look for those that have at least 99.5% and above uptime guarantee. If it’s not stated on their website, call or email them to find out. If you can’t find the information, move on to the next web hosting.

It doesn’t reflect very well on your business or on you if your website is always down from time to time.

3. No hidden charges

Make sure everything is stated out clear and in black and white. I have seen shady web hosting companies who have hidden charges such as extra charge for transferring a domain name out from their web host, extra charge when adding email or ftp accounts, extra charge for adding another subdomain.

While I understand some web hosting do charge extra for bandwidth and disk space and others, it should be made clear on the website and not after you already have brought their hosting package.

4. Ease of use

Depending on your technical skills, you should choose web hosting that suit your comfort level. Most web hosting companies uses cpanel for website management. However a few such as godaddy uses their own proprietary management interface which can take some time to adjust to.

Taking into account all the factors above, how do I go about finding a cheap yet reliable web hosting?

The best way to find is to find web hosting reviews sites and forums and see what others have to say. Beware of some web hosting reviews sites who are biased because they have been paid by the web hosting company to provide a favorable review.

One of the places I visit often is webhostingtalk.com. It is a large web hosting forum where you get unbiased reviews of web hosting companies usually from customers. It’s also a good place to find bargain web hosting offers.

Different kinds of Web Hosting

There are numerous kinds of web hosting service available for websites on the internet. Dependant upon what type of business or web site which you have may determine the type of web hosting that you will require. Hosting choices for example gogvo etc, come as follows:

Free Server

There are numerous websites that provide free pages or sites for people. They generally give a page or two with the capability to post photographs. Some are free or near free. They are also very user-friendly.

You do not have to become a computer genius to use one of these servers. Think about an internet site like My Space. You can get a website there that is totally free.

You can add photographs, blogs, messages, videos and even music. The stipulation is that this is for social purposes only, or is supposed to be. This is a good example of a free website. In the meantime, My Space uses your web site to post their own ads. You’re limited to space and which kind of content you can post.

The website does not belong to your, but My Space. Now suppose you would like to sell products online. You might use a low priced shared server that offers you an opportunity to set up your site free of charge.

They may even provide templates. You will have to get a domain name, such as home sauna .me, you will register the domain name after which be able to upload your website on the shared server. Regarding a free shared server, you’ll be sharing your site with other websites. You will be limited to space as well as bandwidth.

You cannot have thousands of people visit your site in an hour, as it will take up too much bandwidth. This really is ideal for small business that sells very little products online. Meanwhile, your website will probably have a number of ads which are placed on there by the provider to earn the revenue needed to maintain your site.

Shared Server

A shared server is just like a free server only you spend a little bit every month to keep your website.

You have a little more freedom when it comes to ads and can even generate revenue by signing up for Google Ads to be placed on your site. You’ll still have to generate a domain name, perhaps a nice travel one like malta holidays or something similar.

Dedicated Server

A dedicated server hosts only your site with no others. You could have all the space you’ll want to make your web site as large as you want. You’ve enough bandwidth to support all the traffic you can get.

You have total control over the ads that you place on your website. You may also have several little affiliate websites to make up for the visible difference in price.

A dedicated server may be the ultimate in website hosting. You’re actually hosting your own website. You have space, bandwidth and freedom to what you would like.

A dedicated server, while costing more money to work with, may actually end up costing you less, or adding to your income, if used correctly.
