Old School Marketing Or New School Marketing?

In my home business experience, I have been asked by several people where is the best place they can find targeted prospects for their business.

You see, the answer to that question all depends on who you ask, and when you ask me this is exactly what I will tell you.

Those who apply the Old School of thought for finding targeted prospects will tell you that before you even begin to try to work your “cold market” (people you have no personal relationship with), you should “make a list” of friends and family and contact them, first.

The problem with this is most people cringe when they hear that answer because more often times than not, if you are a true network marketer, you have done more than one business before.

By the time you find the one that is a good “fit” for you, you’ve “pitched” your friends and family on so many products, services and business opportunities, that by the time they see you coming, THEY pitch a fit!

Then, the Old Schoolers will tell you that you should apply the “3 Foot Rule”.

This is where you tell someone who comes within three feet of you about your home business opportunity.

Immediately, two problems with this method come to mind.

First, most people would rather wrestle with an anaconda than approach someone they don’t know about a business opportunity!

And two, most people who get over there initial fear and decide to give this supposed business-building technique a try usually do it all wrong.

They approach any and everybody about their opportunity instead of being selective and keeping an eye out for sharp-looking individuals who might show an interest in their home business.

After people in the grocery store, dry cleaners or line at the movie theater literally running away from them like they are psychopaths, it usually destroys that person’s will to put themselves in a position to be rejected ever again!

Lastly, the Old School guru may tell you to try buying some leads and cold-calling them to try to build your home business.

Again, there are two obstacles that have to be overcome with this process of marketing.

One, fear is a major factor yet again.

For a novice, even making the very first phone call, the phone may seem to weigh a ton when calling someone you don’t know about your business opportunity.

Even if that isn’t an issue that needs to be overcome, buying business leads can be expensive.

Some “targeted” business leads can be as much as five dollars each, or more!

If a brand new person doesn’t convert those costly leads to business partners and begin making money, they will be out of business as quickly as they began!

Please understand Old School marketing does work.

But, the other truth about that statement is it just doesn’t work as well as it did in the days that have passed.

With the advent of the internet, the rules of the game have changed…and definitely for the better!

So, where is the best place to find targeted prospects for your home business?

The answer, in a word: ONLINE!

New Schoolers, like myself, realize that if your home business doesn’t have a presence in the online marketplace, you are missing out on literally millions of targeted prospects looking for exactly what you have!

In network marketing, it’s a “numbers game”.

Those who get through the numbers the fastest will find the customers and business partners that will bring incredible wealth to their home business.

Online marketing, via the worldwide web, is powerful in building a successful home-based business because it allows you to go through the numbers faster than any other means out there.

There is not just enough time in the day to prospect strangers with drop cards, post cards, cold-calling, signs, flyers and the other Old School methods out there.

The internet has no need for sleep. It never gets hungry or has to go to the bathroom. It never gets sick. It is always working, and if you put it to work for you, it can bring you business not just locally, but from all around the world, turning your small home-based business into an international business overnight!

When people are searching for information, they don’t go to the Yellow Pages anymore, they go online!

The online marketplace is like building “the better mousetrap” that Ralph Waldo Emerson spoke of!

If you can create an atmosphere for what people want, and make that information easy to find, indeed, “the world will beat a path to your doorway”!

With the dawn of attraction marketing, capture pages, Web 2.0, list building, and creating an automated sales funnel, there is very little selling involved, if any!

Why?

Because having targeted prospects come to YOU for your products, service and/or business opportunity is the “game changer” of online marketing.

Would you rather speak to five people who have contacted you and are super interested in your business or 100 completely uninterested people who you have no relationship with?

I’ll take the five every single time! And, I’m certain you would too!

That’s exactly what online marketing offers: TARGETED PROSPECTS!

If you want to build your business using the Old School tactics, it’s your business, and you’re free to do as you please.

But, when you find yourself frustrated because your business isn’t growing as quickly as you would like, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Based on my experience, if you build your business using the New School approach, you will get so many qualified, targeted prospects making your phone ring off the hook and filling your email inbox, you won’t have enough time to get back with all of them!

Which is better? The choice is yours.

But as for me, I will keep enjoying waking up with a full inbox and voicemail, each morning!

My online marketing drums up business for me without me ever having to leave home!

It works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is potentially exposed to everyone in the world with internet access!

Old School or New School?

There is definitely NO school like the New School!

Get your business online! Your prospects are waiting!
