How Keywords Play An Important Role In Search Engine Optimization

Keywords are just like a nerve system to any SEO strategy. When it comes to achieving the top search engine rankings, it is one of the major key elements of any SEO strategy that play a vital role. It doesn’t matter whether it is SEM or even AdWords; keyword is at the core of it all. In fact, if we try to understand the prime role that keywords play in SEO then there are three prime different aspects on which it can be categorized, such as: Keywords Density, Keyword Volume and finally the types of keywords.

The Keyword Volume can generally be defined as the total number of phrases that can generate a search engine referral for you during a particular period of time. Today, the keyword volume is majorly counted as one of the prime indicators of the overall SEO performance. Just for an example, if your website is creating referrals from 100 top keyword phrases in current scenario then the chances are more that in the coming months, if it begins generating referrals from 200 top keyword phrases it may enjoy a good ranking. It clearly specifies that the referrals in the latter case are primly because of the ranking for several phrases.

On other hand, the Keyword Density is usually defined as the ratio of the word that is being searched for in context to the total number of words appearing on a given web page. For example- If your keyword is appearing just 2 to 3 times in an entire page of 450 or more words, obviously it has a lower keyword density in relation to the keyword that occurs 10 times in a page of similar length. It is important to note that in search engines, if a particular keyword enjoys a higher density on a particular web page, the probability of that particular webpage achieving a good search engine ranking increases exponentially.

Keywords of any website are the most vital element that creates website by fetching the visitors to the site from the search engines. Correct utilization of keywords generally has the key impact in search engine ranking of the site. And, adding to this the keyword tags are also responsible for pulling more visitors than designing of the site. Perhaps, the keyword research is the basic foundation of any successful SEO campaign. A large amount of any success is reliant on how effectively an individual has performed keyword research.

Defining its importance in various SEO strategies, it can also be considered at the heart of all AdWord campaigns. If any SEO strategy doesn’t have a well-defined plan or don’t focus on how to use keywords or what keywords to choose then the probability that your website not getting any referrals increases at a very high rate. Because no referrals generally results in the lower visibility, this ultimately leads to the loss in business especially if you have an e-commerce website.

On the face of it, using keywords for any website promotion is really helpful. It assists the visitors to reach into the website for information they are searching for. As a result, it is always better to select and use perfect keywords. It is really an art and so if have the SEO Company or looking to have your website promotion then make the best use of keywords. They really play the vital role for boosting the web traffic and thus even require a constant monitoring for a successful SEO in the web market.

12 Top Tips For A High Search Engine Ranking

In this article 12 Top Tips for a High Search engine Ranking will be outlined. The advice in this article should help site owners attain better rankings for the sites they are promoting. In other articles we will look at other factors that may affect your ranking and also at factors that may actually damage your ranking.

1) The use of Keywords in tag
The tag appears in search engine results as the title for your page, ideally the tag should be relatively short (up to 8 or 9 words). The keywords for your site should appear in your title tag and should also appear as close to the start as possible

2) Keywords in URL
When naming your pages you should always try to include your keywords in the page name – that way they will also appear in the URL e.g. mysite.com/my-keyword.htm where my keyword is the main keyword you are targeting for that page or site (remember – this same keyword should also appear in the tag and on the page itself.

3) Keyword density in document text
Keyword density is a measure of how many times a keyword appears within the page. It is important to strike a balance between having the keyword in the text on more than one occasion and having it too many times. If the keyword appears too many times then it does not look natural – this is referred to as keyword stuffing and will result in poor search engine results. A good keyword density to aim for is around 4 to 7%, anything above 10% will probably set alarm bells ringing at the search engines.
A good way to check your keyword density is to use an online keyword density checker.

4) Use of Keywords in site links (anchor text)
One of the key factors in getting a good ranking for a keyword is having that keyword in the anchor text for inbound links. Search engines view inbound links as a vote for your site and the anchor text of these links gives the detail of what the vote is for. As well as links from external sites it is also important to check the anchor text on your internal site links.

5) The use of heading tags (eg H1, H2, etc. )
Heading tags ((eg H1, H2, B etc. ) add weight to your keywords and you should always have your keywords within these tags somewhere on your page (preferably close to the start of the page). Use h1 tags for your major keywords and h2 for the minor ones. Also the use of bold for your major keywords is recommended.

6) Origin of inbound links
Not all links are created equal – it is actually possible to damage your ranking by getting lots of links from poor quality sites. If you are looking for sites from which to get links then, as a general rule of thumb, you should check their Google PageRank – the higher the better and try and avoid PageRank 0 sites as link partners.

7) The theme of linking sites
If all the inbound links to your site comes from sites that are not related to the subject of your site then they do not have the same weight as links from sites with a similar theme. The logic behind this is that if people who have sites in the same subject area as your site link to you then they must feel you have some added value or are an authority on the subject.

8) Links from authority (e.g. .edu, .gov ) websites
As links form such domains are hard to obtain they tend to have more value in boosting your rankings.

9) Total number of links to your site
In broad terms the more links you can get to your site the more likely you are to get a high search engine ranking (however you should also bear in mind some of the previous tips on linking – theme of linking sites, the origin of the links, authority site etc)

10) Unique content
If you can generate unique (and interesting!) content then you are more likely to attract and retain visitors, unique content also helps boost your site rankings as search engines like to present unique content to their users. Whilst it is possible to build a successful site without any unique content it is an uphill battle.

11) Frequency of content change
Sites that frequently update their content tend to favor better with the search engines – this links closely with the above tip regarding unique content

12) Site Accessibility
If your site is frequently unavailable then it will damage your rankings as the search engine spiders will not be able to spider the site. A site that is frequently down will discourage users and negatively affect your visitor retention.

We hope this tips prove useful to your online marketing efforts, please look out for more of our articles on this and other related subjects.

What Makes Bing Tick – SEO Tips For Bing Rankings

The majority of my readers will know that the formerly MSN search engine has changed over to Bing – Its new and has some great features. We will be looking at how websites will need to be optimised in order to achieve high rankings in Bing.

There are many areas which are common in SEO regardless of the search engine that you are working to achieve your rankings in, however Bing concentrates and puts more weight on areas which are different to that of Google.

Its without a doubt that I would always advise my readers to optimise for Google first as Google dominates the search engine industry, however achieving first page positions on Yahoo, Bing and other search engines can send masses of traffic your way.

With this in mind its very important to utilise Bing in our SEO quests.

How to optimise your website for Bing?
As usual its very important to have good Titles for your pages – so optimise your titles accordingly. We have some great articles in our blog area regarding onsite optimisation..

As with Google its also important to have sitemaps – good keyword density and the many other factors mentioned in the onsite optimisation article for Bing.

Bing also likes it when websites link out externally to relevant websites – Many people that practice SEO do not like the idea of having external links on their websites as they feel it will lower the Google page rank – As long as you have relevant external links then this should not be a problem – I would also recommend using the ‘no follow’ attribute for your outbound links so that no authority from your website will be passed to the outbound link.

Bing likes contents and text in the same way that Google does – the difference is that Bing likes more text – so try and keep your text on each page to at least 350 words. The majority of search engines do not consider the amount of text as a factor but Bing certainly does. So add more text it will help you for your Bing rankings.

Bing also puts alot of weight on the age of the website. So if you are thinking of creating a new website your better off buying an old domain for your Bing rankings.

Bing also pays much attention to your HTML coding so make sure its all validated. Close paired HTML tags and make sure your links are not broken – I would also recommend you make sure that your links open the correct page. If you have broken links on your website then the MSNBot might not be able to access your website properly – this will cause lack of indexing and Bing will not rank your website high in the SERPS.

If you have changed your web-page or website then make sure that you use an adequate redirect – so if its a temp redirect or a permanent redirect then make sure you use the right one.

As standard its very important to make sure MSNBot is authorized to crawl your website – with this its also important to use a robots.txt file. Dont forget that a robots.txt file is the first place of access for any search engine robots. Make sure that you have authorized MSNBot to access your website.

Finally work on your offsite optimisation – get plenty of quality backlinks and use your keywords as the anchor text. In the same way that Google treats a backlink as a vote for your website then so does Bing.

Social media plays a very big role for Bing rankings – so play an active role on Facebook – MySpace – use web 2.0 accounts such as hubpages – Squidoo etc – from my experience Bing loves social media and ranks websites very high in the SERPS when they activley use social media sites.

Social media is becoming even more important for Google too so its a great idea to start practicing it from now.

Search Engine Optimization – The Fast-Track To Website Traffic

The single most important strategy for generating traffic is to make sure that you are ranking high on the mains search engines for your particular keywords, in the “natural searches” (non-paid ads).

Search Engines compile search results using “spiders” which “crawl” and index the content of your web pages. To rank high in the search engines, you need to know what those “spiders” are looking for and how to give them the information that YOU want them to have.

Of course there’s no way to trick the spiders, what we’re actually wanting to do is to give them as much relevant information about the content and purpose of your site as possible.

This method is called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.

The most important thing that you can do to increase your ranking is to saturate your webpage with key-words. Key-words are those words which people will use to look for your topic.

In your page titles, be sure to use as many keywords as possible, with as few filler words (“the”, “but”, “and”, etc.)
as you can while still having it be readable. It is the page titles hat will appear – hyperlinked – in the search engine results. Make sure that your titles are relevant and somewhat provocative to entice readers to click on them.

Use the words that people are most likely to search FIRST in your title.

Another thing to do is to write a description META Tag. This sentence is a few sentence about the content and purpose of your webpage. Again you want to saturate this with your keywords and keyphrases.

Also be sure to include keywords in your Headers, and to position them in the first paragraph of the body text. The “spiders” always assume that the most important clue to your site’s content will be found in the first paragraph. Try to create a keyword density of about 2% – 2.5%.

This may sound redundant, but it’s an important strategy. When adding an image, make sure that the title of the image (example ——-.jpeg) is full of keywords! They don’t even need to make sense – people aren’t going to see this, but the spiders will.

Another thing that the spiders look for is hyperlinked words. The lesson? Hyperlink the keywords on your page! Link them to other pages on your site, but hyperlink them.

Another strategy is to make sure that your navigation system is…easy to navigate. Have links from your home page to every other page on your site. You don’t want a spider to inadvertently miss one of your pages because a link was missing.

Along with this is making sure that you have a Site Map or Site Index. A site map is a single page with links to ALL of your pages. This is valuable for SEO and also for your visitors. Especially if you have a larger site, this can help to make sure that the spiders (and visitors) are able to access every page without getting lost or hitting dead ends.

Here’s another good tip: focus each of your pages on a specific keyword. An easy way to do this is simply to write an article on each topic represented and set is as your page. This will help your SEO and add information-value to your site.
