The SEO Guide Part 1

It helps you to get your web site to appear in search engine result pages (SERPs) for keywords that that are relevant to your business.

Google, MSN, and Yahoo all use their own formulas to calculate the relevance of your pages, but here are a few common factors to guarantee you will rank above those not using them. Of course, one of the most important factors you want to check out is the company’s track record of results. There are a couple of factors that have effect on your search engine positioning, here is one important one, the on-page optimization factors.

If you want a healthy return on investment (ROI) with search engine optimization (SEO), your success – or failure – hinges on the keywords you select when combined with other factors like link popularity and web site design. This would include such tasks like modifications to your keywords, description, title tags, comment tags, alt descriptions, and title descriptions of anchors and the actual text of your web page. The TITLE tag first is the most important part, the “” tag. Words people are most likely to search on put first in the title (called “keyword prominence”). Optimizing Your Title Tag. This is because most engines & directories place a high level of importance on keywords that are found in your title tag. Your page title is one long uninterrupted road sign instead of several small ones.</p> <p>If it was possible to master seo techniques, and be sure that we can get high rankings by editing just the Meta tags that would be very easy, but this is only one part of search engine optimization, but that’s just not going to happen. These factors all relate to your own site and include your domain name, page names, meta tags, keyword density, titles, headings and last but not least the content. Optimizing your meta tags and dropping a few keywords into your web site won’t pay the rent. Things like the page title, Meta tags, heading tags, comment tags, and anchor text were the only things that mattered. Back couple of years ago you could just tweak, title, headers and description on each page and by doing this you could create fantastic seo results.</p> <p>By including local information in your tags and web pages, you help prospective customers find specific information on the area and business they are searching for. Localized search engine optimization is the addition of local search terms to your tags and web pages. Keywords / Description / Alt Tags / Title Tags / Page Content.</p> <p>Make sure that all your tags properly closed and that there are no tags missing, when search engines spider your site and your pages are not complete the search engines might ignore the page. The science is formatting the pages with the right meta tags and submitting them in the right way to the search engines.</p> <p>Search Engines are also interested in the text of the site. Anchor text is the text the web visitor sees on the web page, which is hyperlinked to your domain name or URL. When submitting to other sites use your keyword phrase for your anchor text when ever possible. You can just take it that plain text is the food for search engine spiders.earch engines.</p> <p>To discover how you can become a successful online business owner and have your own profitable online business overnight, visit <b><i><a href='http://www.turboonlinebusiness.com/' target='_blank'>Online business</a></i></b>. <b><i><a href='http://www.turboonlinebusiness.com/' target='_blank'>Online business</a></i></b> has everything you need to make money online with minimal investment and effort on your part. The Basics Of Universal Search

Universal Search has recently become one of the most widely talked about topics in Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Google is, once again, a culpable party in this increased exposure. Ask was one of the first search engines to introduce universal search, and a number quickly followed suit. It wasn’t really until Google introduced a similar aspect to its search portfolio that the online marketing industry stood up and took notice.

What Is Universal Search?

Search engines have, for years, indexed textual web pages. When a surfer searches using a particular keyword a list of web pages that are deemed relevant to that topic are displayed. For years, search engines have displayed only textual pages because that is all they have really been capable of indexing. Universal search looks at much more than just the text on a page in order to generate its results. Images, video, blog posts, and news articles are among the results now displayed.

Universal Or Blended Search?

Ask 3D is referred to as universal search because it displays a separate list of results for each of the different media and page types. In comparison, Google Universal is more of a blended search because it combines all of the results together into the now-familiar list of 10 results. For the average web user, these new search portals mean a new dawn of search. The same is also true for marketers. Website owners face problems, challenges, and potential opportunities.

- Problems can arise for pages that had previously ranked well in the search engine results. It is possible that those pages would have now been pushed down the results by video, images, blog posts, and news items.

- The challenge is to create such a rich variety of content, and to optimize the resulting media for the search engines’ benefit. It may mean more work, but the harsh reality is that it is necessary work for the astute Webmaster that wishes to traverse the search engine results.

- Of course, opportunities exist for those that are willing to do the work. Video clips are surprisingly easy to make and need not consist of more than a product being used, or a designer talking about the biggest benefits of a new product. Add some audio, and edit the images, and you have a video clip ready for universal and blended search.

Worth The Effort

The marketing industry is yet to fully latch onto universal search engine marketing. Some do provide it, and there are certainly services available to help with each of the various aspects, but there are very few companies that specifically target it. If you are willing to put in the time or the resources then you could be perfectly placed to take advantage before everybody else.

Optimization Processes

The processes for marketing some of these types of media are yet to be fully explored. News items and blog posts are essentially textual content and so can be optimized in the same way as normal page content. Images should have a keyword rich file name and Alt tag, and should be submitted to some of the major image sharing sites with similarly keyword rich descriptions (and a link to the page on your site where it is featured). Video footage should also use similar optimization rules.

Universally Speaking

High speed broadband connections have made online multimedia a reality. Gone are the days of boring, chaste textual content. Video, images, audio, blogs, and news articles are among the more popular forms of online content and the major search engines have tuned into this trend. Universal or blended search provides searchers with lists of each type of media and also presents the website owner with the potential of optimizing a greater portion of their website to appear in the search engine results.

4 Stars A GOLDMINE OF INFORMATION TO NEVER BE WITHOUT!
I have several websites that are currently looking to optimize their traffic to each site, but to do the task for myself was a daunting one. I could figure out the simple things, such as sending out emails to specific lists and advertising through friend’s sites and reviews, but anything more than that was far beyond my capabilities. In a single reading of this book, that has drastically changed.

Blankson has created an effortless read. The layout is such that you can read the whole book for a step-by-step process, which I would recommend, or pick out the areas most relevant to your needs. His language is easy to follow for anyone and jargon that must be used is fully explained. His book is full of essential suggestions, like using social sites and how to best showcase your site, and more advanced suggestions like how to improve your page ranking and to optimizing keywords. One of the things that helped me the most was that his every concept was coupled with sites and links that allowed you to begin the process and in many cases explained things even further. This allowed him to wean out the fluff usually included and focus on the relevant aspects. His appendixes alone will save you time and frustration and make this book more than worthwhile.

I am now fully confident that I have the tools I need to create more traffic for the sites I work for. This is a book that I will always keep close by the computer. It far exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to optimize their search engine potential.

A practical book for practical people, from [...]

4 Stars Educate yourself – web marketing research at its best!
As a freelance writer, I am often approached by companies needing web content with very strict guidelines – and very often had no idea what they were talking about! I did my best to avoid taking these jobs, since I was definitely uneducated in regards to internet marketing. Terms like “SEO” and “pay-per-click” seemed way over my head. Once I decided to take the time to study up on this subject, and picked up a copy of Blankston’s book, everything fell into place. My income has nearly doubled since I took the time to read up on the subject, and I’ve kept it on my desk ever since – it’s a great reference even after you finish it.

4 Stars This book is a must have for internet business owners
This book was a blessing for me to have come across. I own a handful of online stores and businesses. I have spent thousands of dollars on eBooks and manuals guaranteed to show me results. Of course, these books were all pretty much the same thing. Only about two percent of the information contained in these books pertained to me or my situation. Then I came across Samuel Blankson’s book, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), and read it in a single day.

He manages to leave out all of the irrelevant information that most e-books and informational portals fill their pages with. The book targeted the specific questions, ideas and information I had been looking for as an everyday person trying to promote my online business. He helped to deliver a total understanding of who is on the internet, what they are looking for, how they are looking for it and how they want it delivered.

This book walks you through everything from setting up your website, META and TITLE tags, troubleshooting, sitemaps, keywords, site content and search engine optimizations. It is a one stop resource for all your online marketing needs. Samuel also provides information on several directories you can add your website to.

If you have a question about SEO’s or marketing your online business, this book has the answers. Language barriers? There is a section on that. Promoting your site through the use of social networks? Covered. How can you really promote your business through the world of blogging? Read about it.

There are so many ways to get the word out there, and this book covers them all. You will be amazed at all the resources, knowledge and ideas this book has to offer. I have personally used a few tips from the book over the past week and have already seen traffic to my website double. I cannot wait to implement more of the things I have learned.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Disorganized with unnecessary chapters
I was very dissapointed with this book. Much of what is said here can be easily found on the internet. Normally content being on the internet is fine but I was looking for a book I could read straight through rather than a collection of disjointed chapters on multiple topics. This book just didn’t flow together. I never figured out what story was trying to be told by this book. I would skip this one and try another SEO book if you are a beginner.

I found it odd that a SEO Book had a chapter on Pay Per Click. Danny Sullivan has stated SEM = SEO + PPC. If this is the case they should have re-titled this as an SEM book or cut a few of the chapters. I was even more surprised to find a chapter on Maximizing PPC Strategies, it just wasn’t necessary. I guess SEO and PPC overlap a great deal, but why here in an SEO book, let alone one called the SEO Bible? Combine the above with the Chapter on How Search Engines work it seemed to me like extra stuff I already know or didn’t come here to learn.

The content that was focused on SEO was valuable but the disorganization of the book made it a bit more difficult to find than I was expecting.

1 Star Beginners Beware
I’m generally forgiving about the technical oversights, but this book contains a substantial amount of misinformation which is not only mentioned but expounded upon with complementary bad advice. This makes it dangerous for any beginner. The book was written, as mentioned by others, by someone with a seemingly very weak technical background (including shortcomings in basic web authoring) and provides a quick overview of concepts in a way that may satisfy the curious, but NOT in a way that is particularly helpful to those actually looking to properly utilize any of the techniques.

For beyond beginners, the book provides very little content with much time spent repeating basic suggestions and providing readily available information with no insight (and ignoring other relevant, important, available information). There are several fundamental concepts that are glossed over with comments to the effect of “you can learn more about this by researching SEO” (I think I might buy a book on it…). The book was published long after the WWW matured but seems a retrofitted relic of the days of overloaded HTML 3 meta tags.

The book wouldn’t be a bad quick read if it wasn’t so long (there certainly doesn’t seem to be more than 100 pages worth of information), but it’s certainly a bad investment.

5 Stars Amazing coverage of mistakes
This book almost covers all beginners’ mistakes and errors which may cause them to get banned from search engines as well as it gives an excellent overview of SEO plans and how to create a customized plan for your goals and depending on your time and cost.

1 Star SEO Bible? Please … Biggest Waste of Money
I was looking for new insight … unfortunately, this book is NOT the place to get it. This doesn’t even go over all the basics …. it doesn’t sufficiently cover simple topics such as site architecture, keyword density, keyword placement, unique content development, keyword selection, developing title and other meta tags, proper off-site optimization techniques such as link building, page rank ….

Not really sure what this book was about … but it sure wasn’t a ‘bible’ for SEO.

If you’re really looking for a good book on Search Engine Optimization, this isn’t it. Keep looking.

2 Stars Misinformation and No Help
This book does not give a lot of specific advice and much of the advice it does give is wrong. Just looking at the author page will tell you why this was written by a professional writer not by someone working on the web.
