Year 2010 Methods for Driving Website Traffic

For the year 2010, content is still the king!  The delivery of the content is evolving and if you don’t adapt, then you could miss out on some very valuable sources for driving website traffic.

Number 1 on my list for driving traffic to your website is Video Marketing.

There are over 26 BILLION videos viewed per month in the United States alone.  YouTube is the #4 search engine on the Internet, and it only is a portal to user-created videos.

With just a flip-cam and a little creativity, you can begin generating a following of fans which will improve traffic to your site drastically.

My number 2 best method for driving website traffic is Article Marketing.

This method is really a tried and true way to not only build up links but drive some very targeted traffic to your site.  Write several articles regarding your niche and submit them to article directories.  Make sure your signature have something to offer, a call to action of sorts so that the readers will click on your link for more

Number 3 for sustaining traffic to your website is Building Back Links.

I don’t think there is a need to really buy links.

There are a slew of methods for driving website traffic that involve building up one way in bound links.  Here are just a few:

Social Bookmarking – Use the power of Social Bookmarking sites StumbleUpon, JumpTags, Reddit, and others. select your tag wisely so that people will find your website link.  Also, make sure you put an interesting description when you bookmark.

Social Networking – Sites like Facebook allow you to put your website link in the profile, so you better make full use of it. Check out other social network sites that has this functionality.  I really like LinkedIn.

Yahoo Answers  – By contributing to online discussions and providing answers to common questions you can drive website traffic.  Especially if you include a link to your site at the end of a valuable answer.

Google Groups – You can join several Google Groups that talk about your niche. Be dynamic and engaged in the group and try not to spam and sell, instead you need to provide good content for members so that they will view you as an authority even more and hopefully click your link to to your website.

Forum Marketing – Where else could you find a targeted traffic to drive to your blog or website other than a forum? Join at least 10 good forums that talk about your niche and allow signature after posting (some forums do not allow signature line which is ridiculous). Again, like Article Marketing, make sure your forum signature includes a call to action that will make people click on it.

Is Overnight SEO Success Still Possible?

As the owner of a search engine optimization company, I have seen the SEO industry evolve a great deal over the years but never more dramatically than it is right now. Lately I have noticed signs that the “free ride” of getting easy website traffic from search engines is coming to an end. And that has caused many optimizers and website owners to ask themselves, “Is overnight SEO success still possible?”

In the early years (very early), it sure seemed like it was. One could simply add a bunch of keyword meta tags and get almost instant results. Then, meta tags were out and doorway pages were in.

The next fad was links from any and all sites, the more the better. When relevancy in links became a factor, many webmasters rushed to get link scripts installed and set up link directories with relevant categories.

Then content got a good run for a while. And most recently, text link ads (paid links) became all the rage.

Paid Links: The Straw That Broke Google’s Back?

As soon as link popularity became the holy grail of SEO and webmasters began learning how to artificially increase it with paid links, Google began working on filters to stop ranking manipulation. It also seems to have inspired the rumored “aging delay” in which new sites on newly registered domains face long waits to get indexed by the grand daddy of all engines.

While catching cheaters is a good thing, a lot of legitimate, quality sites are also getting caught up in Google’s new fishnet. There is plenty of grumbling among webmasters who report waiting up to nine months to appear in the Google rankings for even the most obvious keywords such as their company name.

Yes, getting top rankings in Google is definitely a lot harder (and slower) than it used to be. This is partly because more sites are being indexed and the sheer volume of competition is making it tougher to rise to the top. But that’s only part of the picture.

Google and the other engines are hell bent on preventing rankings manipulation, and since they hold all the cards, we’d better learn to play the game by their rules. And that, funnily enough, could mean going back to some of the “no brainer” promotional methods in use four or five years ago, when many of us took our businesses online for the first time. Back then, we did things like distributing articles and press releases and buying ads in relevant publications – not for the incoming links but for the visibility, traffic and credibility they generated. It just made sense.

With overnight SEO success a thing of the past, online business owners/operators not only have to change tactics – they also need to adjust their expectations.

Keeping SEOs on Their Toes

Responsible and workable SEO these days means not wasting your time or money trying to trick the search engines into ranking you highly for keyword phrases that you have no business ranking for in the first place. That’s why it’s so important before signing on with any optimization company to discuss these new expectations with them. You need to be an informed consumer because there are still SEOs living in the (very recent) past and still deeply committed to paid linking schemes, keyword stuffing, etc.

Now more than ever you as an SEO client need to investigate the optimization companies you’re considering. That means pumping them for details not just about their proven results but about their methodology such as keyword selection and link popularity before you pay the deposit.

Another reality check: SEO is going to be a tad more expensive in this new world (unless you are among the few who have the time, skills and resources to do it yourself). Reaching your target audience with interesting and compelling information about your industry is now the best way to achieve link popularity. But it’s definitely not as easy, fast or cheap as buying 100 site-wide text link ads or swapping links willy nilly.

If you don’t have the resources to produce regular copy about your business or industry, hiring an optimization company that has content writers to do the research and writing for you is probably your best bet. The benefits of greater link popularity AND visibility will be worth it over the long haul.

Dedicated Servers Are Soley Yours To Use

With websites as one of the most powerful and efficient ways of mass communication, there might be a few problems you encounter while hosting your site. A good server host is very difficult to find and you need to look things such as support offered, uptime, bandwidth and easiness to use before picking a hosting service.

If you are using a poor website host, you are losing traffic. Remember that the visitors don’t spend more time on your if your site has any technical issues. If you do not have a high dedicated server hosts, your site will not be able to run the multimedia content efficiently. When you run out of bandwidth, you are losing the most important factor of your business – the customers.

It’s extremely important for video or image site to have high bandwidth as users frequently visit the site for updates. Higher bandwidth enables quicker sharing of files and the content immediately appears on the screen. This leads to user satisfaction and can be one of the reasons for driving quality traffic to your site.

If you use up the entire bandwidth allotted for a month, then you are in trouble. Before you choose a host that will give you access to high bandwidth, make sure that you do a detailed study on their features. Many hosts give you attractive offers in the first few months but only to put you in trouble later on. So make sure you read all the clauses correctly. Another feature that marks a good host is the technical support they are able to provide. A sound technical base is required for the smooth functioning of any site. Also make sure that they are not overcharging you for the facilities they are providing you with. Before you choose a host, compare their prices with that of others in the market. Check out sites that they already host and see what all features are enabled. These simple things can go a long way in avoiding trouble in the future.

High bandwidth hosting is very important today as the load taken by a site is huge. So the next time you choose a host, make sure that the bandwidth provided is unlimited or is flexible.

Unfortunately the position is not so consistent with
dedicated server web host. There are unmanaged services and managed services (and degrees of management) but one hosting company’s definition of “management” may differ from the next. The latter is important as you want a supplier who in likely to in the business for the foreseeable future. Always check out dedicated server hosting reviews before choosing the next dedicated company. Webhost Hosting Companies

With vast amounts of webhost hosting companies in the market it can be daunting if not impossible to isolate which web site hosting companies truly provide an excellent hosting solution at an excellent price. When you have an established domain name with a good web hosting company, you can get reports on your traffic and which of your pages your customers are visiting most often, as well as many other statistics.

Your web host will charge you a fee for monthly service that ranges from $10 or $20 to the more expensive $50.00 per month. Plan to pay between $300 and $500 per year to your web host.

Always head off free or very inexpensive web hosting services, because you may experience bouts of server downtimes and you are likely to have significant limitations in storage, number of email addresses, FTP upload etc.

Be sure your webhost host can suit e-commerce and storefronts, wireless capability, bogs, forums, chats, online interactive helps and anything else you want to add onto your site.

forecast what your growing needs are and ensure that this web host can serve you as you grow. The last thing you want to do is change host mid way unless you absolutely have to do so.

Check your bandwidth capability to be sure that, if your website traffic grows rapidly, your customers will not have to wait to download or view information. Three things to look for in a webhost hosting company are:

1. Excellent Customer Support: Your hosting provider should be there for you 24/7 and give you instant access to the technicians you need to solve your problem. Ask them how long it takes for them to typically reply to your problem. A good test is to call them in the mid night to check if you get to a live, level 3 support.

2. A Sound Infrastructure: Check whether they offer a multi-homed network powered by multiple bandwidth providers to ensure redundancy. Some offer a 100% guarantee on its network availability or network uptime.

3. Financial Stability: If you’re running very critical operations, you can’t afford to be with a hosting company that may not be in business in a few months.

All submissions should be done by hand and we do believe that any automated submission of any kind should be used. It is not necessary to submit to thousands of search engines like some advertise. You need only to submit to the main search engines which bring the majority of all online traffic, such as Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and Ask.com.
